Vol. 326 No. 7

Written Answers. - Youth House Project.

140.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that the Corrymeela community, Ballycastle, County Antrim are anxious that a youth house similar to theirs in Ballycastle, County Antrim, be set up in the Republic; if the Government supports this idea as a contribution to greater understanding between communities; and, if so, the tangible help the Government can give, as a matter of urgency, to set up this project.

My Department has allocated a grant of £40,000 to Glencree Centre for Reconciliation towards the cost of establishing a town house in Dublin City. This project when completed will provide residential, seminar, lecture and conference accommodation for young people and others from all parts of Ireland and will complement the existing premises at Glencree, Co. Wicklow. It is anticipated that the Corrymeela Community, Ballycastle may be among the organisations which will avail themselves of the facilities to be provided in Dublin. I may add that the Department of Education also makes a grant to the Glencree Centre for Reconciliation in connection with the employment of a development officer. In addition £30,000 has been set aside for a scheme involving North-South co-operation in the areas of youth and sport.
