Vol. 326 No. 9

Written Answers. - Navan Mine Waste Heat.

129.

asked the Minister for Energy the progress of his investigations into the possibility of providing home heating in the Navan area of County Meath by using waste heat from the mines there.

The Institute for Industrial Research and Standards, at my request, have been investigating the possibility of using waste heat from the Navan mine for district heating in the area. I understand from the institute that this proposal does not appear to be feasible because of the low temperature of the waste heat emitted and the need to treat the heating medium to remove pollutants. I expect to receive a detailed report in due course which will enable me to consider the matter more conclusively.
