The estimate of £45 million is represented by the aggregate of relatively small amounts standing to the credit of the various Departments at the end of the year. The estimate is based on the experience of the amounts unspent in previous years. The precise total or its composition will not be known until the Appropriation Account for each Department is available later this year.
