Vol. 326 No. 9

Written Answers. - Meath Schools.

154.

asked the Minister for Finance the progress made to date in regard to the building of new schools at the following national schools in County Meath since his replies to a parliamentary question on 12 July 1979: (i) Slane, (ii) Stamullen, (iii) Duleek, (iv) Ballivor, (v) Kilcloon; and the further steps, if any, to be taken before completion of the new buildings.

The position in respect of each school is as follows:

1. Slane — Construction work on the original scheme is well advanced. A further two classroom extension is being provided.

2. Stamullen — The Commissioners of Public Works have confirmed to the Department of Education that an addition to the site of this school would be required to accommodate the extension proposed.

3. Duleek — The Commissioners of Public Works await the submission of revised sketch plans from the architect employed by the school authorities.

4. Ballivor — Work on the extension is well advanced.

5. Kilcloon — A grant towards the erection of this school has been sanctioned and contract documents are in hands.

The main process in relation to construction of schools are the provision of a suitable site by the management, the preparation and approval of sketch plans, the sanction of a grant by the Department of Education, the preparation of contract documents, the invitation of tenders and subsequent examination, the payment of the local contribution and the placing of a contract.
