Vol. 326 No. 9

Written Answers. - Cattle Semen Importation.

176.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he received an application from a person (details supplied) in County Meath to import semen of the Beeffalo cattle breed from the United States which was sent to his Department on 1 October 1980; if the cheque which accompanied the application was cashed; when a reply was made to the application; and, if the application was refused, the reason.

This application to import semen was received and the cheque enclosed lodged to the credit of my Department. I regret that through an oversight a reply was not issued to indicate that due to the risk of introducing animal disease from the United States, the application would have to be refused. The applicant is now being informed accordingly and his application fee refunded.
