Vol. 326 No. 9

Written Answers. - Building and Construction Expenditure.

190.

asked the Minister for the Environment the percentage of Government expenditure which is expenditure on building and construction in each of the EEC member states including Ireland.

Practically all Government expenditure relating to the building industry is of a capital nature. In the case of Ireland, out of a total Public Capital Programme provision of £1,733 million for 1981, £1,043 or 60 per cent relates to the building industry. This compares with 58.5 per cent in 1977. Corresponding information is not available for the other member states of the EEC. The Annual Bulletin of Housing and Building Statistics for Europe, published by the United Nations, does not give this information and it seems that the EEC does not publish the information in the form requested.
