Written Answers. - Arterial Drainage.

287.

asked the Minister for Finance if he recently received a submission in relation to the cleaning of the Glensaul River, Tourmakeady, County Mayo as part of the Robe/Mask scheme; and if he is prepared to allocate the necessary finance to commence this very necessary work.

The submission recently received concerning the extension of the Corrib-Mask-Robe Catchment Drainage Scheme to include the Glensaul River, Tourmakeady, will be examined to see if the inclusion of the river in the scheme would be warranted.

288.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange for an extension of the drainage of the Crosswater River, a tributary of the Meath Blackwater, to provide an out-fall for field drainage in the townlands of Rahard, Clonasilla, Crosswater and Bolie near Oldcastle, County Meath.

The proposal to drain the river in question was investigated and the work was found to be uneconomic. It has not therefore been included in the Boyne drainage scheme.

289.

asked the Minister for Finance the action he proposes to take in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Meath who lost valuable watering facilities for his stock as a result of work carried out by the Office of Public Works under the Boyne drainage scheme; and if he will pay compensation to this person or make arrangements to have these water facilities restored.

Work on the restoration of the water supply in question is scheduled to be carried out later this year.

290.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason the Office of Public Works are not taking steps to relieve flooding on the lands of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath, a portion of which has been inaccessible for some time now.

The drain serving the lands in question is programmed for maintenance works this year.
