Vol. 326 No. 11

Written Answers. - Balally (Dublin) School.

292.

asked the Minister for Education the number of standards in St. Olaf's national school, Balally, Dublin which have to be combined under one teacher; the number by which the Balally school enrolment falls short of the number required for an additional teacher; and if, in view of the projected move to the new school, he will sanction the appointment of an extra teacher now.

Queen of the Angels NS which is at present accommodated in St. Olaf's building pending its transfer to a new school premises had an average enrolment for the September and December quarters of 303 and 307 respectively. An average enrolment of 340 pupils would be required for the appointment of an additional teacher in accordance with the Rules for National Schools. It is regretted that in the circumstances the appointment of an additional teacher could not be approved at present.

Two of the teachers have classes consisting of pupils from two separate standards. This arrangement is inevitable in view of the uneven pattern of enrolment in different standards in the school.
