Vol. 326 No. 11

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

343.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will provide a public telephone kiosk at Drimoleague, County Cork; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A kiosk will be provided at Drimoleague within the next few weeks.

344.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the nature and extent of the cabling required to provide additional telephone lines at Castleview housing estate, Dunboyne, County Meath; and when he expects this work to be completed.

About 0.8 kilometres of main cabling and some local cabling in the estate are required. Because of the volume of engineering work requiring attention in the district generally it is unlikely that service can be provided for at least a year.

345.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will provide a telephone kiosk for the residents of Saleen estate, Castlebar, County Mayo.

It is proposed to provide an additional telephone kiosk in Castlebar which will serve the Saleen estate area as soon as a suitable site is selected and the necessary consents obtained.

346.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone which was installed in the home of an old age pensioner (details supplied) in County Dublin in mid-December 1980, will be connected.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason an applicant (details supplied) in County Dublin was not supplied with a telephone service although neighbours nearby obtained service and when service will be provided.

Service could not be provided until the necessary cabling work had been carried out. This has now been completed and service will be provided within the next two months or so.

348.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that a person (details supplied) in South West Cork signed a contract and paid £168.00 for telephone service on 22 September 1980 but has not yet had the telephone installed; the reason for the delay; and when he can now expect to have service provided.

The delay has been due to the extensive construction work involved which could not be undertaken earlier because of the volume of engineering work requiring attention in the area. It is expected that service will be provided within the next month or so.

349.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he will arrange for the erection of a public telephone kiosk at Ahakista, Bantry, County Cork.

It is proposed to provide a telephone kiosk at Ahakista as soon as a suitable site is selected and the necessary consents obtained.

350.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay to date in the provision of a telephone service for a person (details supplied) in Cork city who lives alone and who suffers from multiple sclerosis; and when service will be provided.

Service to this applicant is dependent on the provision of cable which, because of the volume of engineering work on hands in the area at present, is unlikely to be completed before the end of this year. In view of the special circumstances of this applicant the possibility of providing service earlier by exceptional means is being investigated.

351.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason a request for a transfer of telephone service (details supplied) cannot be met; and if his Department are now in a position to effect the transfer.

Service is dependent on the provision of additional cabling which, because of the volume of engineering work requiring attention in the Dublin area, is not expected to be completed for at least another year. A cable which became available and which the applicant sought to have allocated to him is being used to meet an earlier application.

352.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason additional telephone cable connections have not been provided to date for a company (details supplied) in Dublin; and when they will be provided in view of the urgency of the matter.

The application is for private telephone circuits from the subscriber's premises to various locations in Dublin area. It has not been possible to provide service pending availability of cables to serve the applicants premises and the premises of the other parties involved. It is expected that the circuits will be provided progressively commencing in about six months' time. Because of the volume of engineering work requiring attention in the Dublin area it is unlikely that all the circuits will be provided for a year or more.

353.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin.

Service is dependent on the provision of cabling which, because of the volume of engineering work requiring attention in the Dublin area, is unlikely to be completed for at least a year.

354.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, in view of the facts of the case, a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dublin in the near future.

Service is dependent on the provision of cable which, because of the volume of engineering work on hands at present, is unlikely to be completed for at least another year.

Because of the circumstances of this case the possibility of providing service by exceptional means is being examined.

355.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when an application for a transfer of a telephone service will be met for a person (details supplied) in Dublin.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange to give the allocation of a telephone to a person (details supplied) in County Meath priority treatement in view of the fact that there is a child in the household who can get sudden attacks of an illness which, if untreated, can lead to brain damage.

Priority will be afforded to this applicant and it is expected that service will be provided within the next four months or so when the necessary cabling will be completed.
