Vol. 326 No. 12

Written Answers. - Dublin Airport Runways.

277.

andMr. Deasy asked the Minister for Transport the plan in existence for the replacement of the runways at Dublin Airport; and the age of the runways now in use.

The original concrete runways at Dublin Airport were constructed in 1946-47. Asphalt overlays were added on two of the runways (Nos. 06/24 and 17/35) in 1967 and 1974 respectively.

In view of the age of the existing runways a new runway system will be required. Most of the land required for the new system has been acquired.

A working group consisting of representatives of my Department and Aer Rianta has been set up to recommend plans including the time-scale, for the new runway system and their report is expected shortly.
