Vol. 327 No. 1

Written Answers. - Painting Contracts.

4.

andMr. L. Burke asked the Minister for Finance if he will request all Government Departments to specify that paint manufactured in Ireland is to be used in all contracts they award.

Clauses specifying that Irish materials must be used were in the past included in tender and contract documents used by some Government Departments. Such clauses had to be deleted following our entry into the European Community, as the Treaty of Rome prohibits discriminatory measures in favour of domestic manufacture. It would not therefore be possible to reintroduce a measure specifying that only paint manufactured in Ireland should be used in Government contracts.
