Written Answers. - Kinsale (Cork) IDA Plans.

225.

Mr. Walsh

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism if he will make a statement on IDA plans for the Kinsale area, County Cork.

In the Industrial Development Authority's Industrial Plan 1978-1982, Kinsale is part of a town grouping in County Cork for which the IDA have set a target to create 1,100 new grant-aided jobs.

During the past three years the IDA have approved four projects with a potential to employ over 790 persons at full production for Kinsale. These include Elanco, a pharmaceutical company, who are currently in production and plan to employ 600 persons at full development. Moygara Ltd., approved under the IDA's enterprise development programme, propose to employ 50 persons at full production in the manufacture of a complete range of grain handling, storage and conditioning equipment. This company have now moved into a new 8,500 sq. ft. factory and are recruiting staff.

Another of the projects approved for the area, Meceire Ltd., will commence production shortly in the IDA's 24,000 sq. ft. advance factory and are expected to employ 75 people at full production. The fourth project to receive approval of grant assistance is Kinsale Laboratories who plan to employ 68 persons in the manufacture of aerosols. This project is at the planning stage.

The IDA have a 12 acre site in Kinsale which they are actively promoting for further suitable industries. They are also encouraging small entrepreneurs to set up their own companies to complement the growth of the medium/large companies in the town.
