Vol. 327 No. 7

Written Answers. - Fort Camden (County Cork) Future.

340.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will make a statement on the future of Fort Camden, Crosshaven, County Cork.

The fort is in regular use by the Defence Forces and will be required for such use for the foreseeable future.

There are 17 married quarters at the fort, three of them inside the fort and 14 outside it. They are occupied as follows: One (1) by the Caretaker; Fifteen (15) by serving soldiers; One (1) is used as an NCOs Mess.

Because of the shortage of married quarters for serving Army personnel and the long waiting list of applicants for such quarters, it is not proposed to dispose of any of the quarters at the fort.

There is an ongoing programme of improvements and repairs to the married quarters at the fort involving repairs to the exteriors and installation of inside toilets and bathrooms.
