Vol. 327 No. 7

Written Answers. - Issuing of Birth Certificates.

373.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the long delays in issuing birth certificates in long form at the Custom House, Dublin; and if he has any proposals to increase either the level of staff or their efficiency.

I am aware that there is at present some delay in dealing with applications for certificates to the general register office. The staff in the Office are working overtime to cope with the present heavy demand and to deal with the backlog of work that has arisen. I have no reservations about the efficiency of the staff who are engaged in attempting to deal with this demand at present. The delay involved has already been considerably reduced and a continuing improvement in the position is expected.
