asked the Minister for the Environment if he will state in respect of each local authority the number of positions of fire officer, assistant fire officer, fire prevention officer, or other similar grades sanctioned; the number of such posts vacant at 31 January 1981; if he will give details of any proposals before him at that date for additional posts in the area of fire safety; and the date on which each such request was made.
Written Answers. - Local Authority Fire Officer Staff.
The following table, which is taken from information supplied by local authorities, shows in respect of the local authority fire service the present number of offices in each fire brigade authority, the creation of which is subject to the sanction of the Minister for the Environment.
Details of the numbers of such offices vacant as at 31 January 1981 are not normally available in my Department. It is known, however, that six posts of chief fire officer in Donegal, Sligo-Leitrim, Monaghan, Limerick, Roscommon and Tipperary (N.R.) County Councils were not filled on a permanent basis as at that date, pending completion of conciliation negotiations relating to their status and pay. The posts are now being filled on the old terms, subject to review.
