Vol. 327 No. 9

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Menlo (Galway) Postal Delivery.

15.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the new and unsatisfactory postal delivery arrangements at Menlo, Galway; and if he will have the matter investigated with a view to reverting to the original delivery time.

Some revision of the delivery arrangements in Galway was necessary in order to provide for housing and industrial development in and around the city and the initial delivery arrangements for the Menlo area were not satisfactory. These have now been further reviewed and delivery is now scheduled to be made between 11.30 a.m. and noon which compares favourably with delivery times in similar areas throughout the country.

When will the new arrangement come into operation?

Now. To be frank, some of those changes — there are a number involved — started on 6 March. They are ongoing.

I put down this question because of the unsatisfactory delivery service. People in that area were not getting postal deliveries until 6 O'clock in the evening.

I am aware of that and that is why I had the matter investigated two months ago.

I am glad the question I tabled bore some fruit.

As always, I am delighted to be of assistance to the Deputy.

I appreciate the Minister's concern for me.
