The numbers of £1,000 new house grants paid are as follows: 1977 — 247; 1978 — 7,153; 1979 — 8,078; and 1980 — 8,369. Because applications are at different stages of processing, it is not possible to state the number on hands at any particular time. However, provision has been made for the payment of approximately 9,500 grants in 1981.
