376.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the position relating to the provision of an automatic telephone exchange in Belmullet, County Mayo; and if it is intended to invite tenders from contractors during 1981.

The Office of Public Works expect to invite tenders for Belmullet automatic telephone exchange building about the middle of this year if the legal formalities for acquisition of the site are completed in time. The exchange equipment will be ordered from one of the Department's normal suppliers.

The forecast at this stage is that it should be possible to provide automatic service at Belmullet in 1983.

377.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when an application for a transfer of telephone service for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin will be met.

It is expected that service will be provided within a week.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that a company (details supplied) in County Dublin are inhibited from employing more staff because of the lack of additional telephone lines; and if, in the circumstances, the requisite number of additional lines can be provided in the near future.

Service in the area is dependent on further cabling work being carried out in the area and additional telephone exchange equipment being provided. It is expected that at least some of the additional lines sought by the company will be available towards the end of this year and the possibility of providing a few extra lines in advance of that is being further examined.

380.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why an applicant for telephone service (details supplied) in Dublin who was among those included in his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 184 of 15th May, 1980 as one who would be offered service in about two months from that date, has not yet been offered service; and when service will be provided.

The applicant named was one of the second group referred to in that reply and for whom it was stated service would be provided when additional exchange equipment was installed about mid-1981. In practice, the new exchange is not likely to be ready until the third quarter of this year. The application in question will be met shortly after the exchange is brought into service.

381.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for an applicant (details supplied) in County Dublin.

It is expected that service will be provided within the next three months or so.

382.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will provide a telephone kiosk in the Moreen estate, Sandyford, Dublin, at a specific location (details supplied).

It is planned to provide a telephone kiosk at Moreen estate. When deciding on the location of the kiosk the site proposed will be borne in mind. The kiosk will be provided as soon as possible after the necessary consents to a suitable site have been obtained.

383.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the proposals he has for the extension of the STD automatic dialling system to all of County Mayo.

Over 50 per cent of the telephone subscribers in County Mayo already have automatic service, including STD facilities. It is expected that automatic service will be extended next year to about 15 exchanges, which include Westport, Mulrany, Achill Sound, Keel, Killala, Foxford, Swinford, Balla and Ballyhaunis and that the remaining 40 manual exchanges will be converted to automatic working in 1983-84.

384.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will investigate urgently complaints by a person (details supplied) in County Dublin regarding his telephone service.

The complaints made by the subscriber are still being investigated but a full reply will be sent within the next three weeks.

A rebate of rental will be allowed but the period it will cover cannot be determined until the inquiries into service difficulties complained of by the subscriber are completed. Investigation of some trunk calls that the subscriber questioned involves consultation with the British Post Office and the required information is not yet available.
