Vol. 327 No. 11

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Certificates of Insurance.

29.

asked the Minister for the Environment why certificates of insurance issued in pursuance of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, in some cases no longer show the index mark and registration number of the vehicle.

The prescribed form of the certificate of insurance provides for the entry of the registration number of a specified vehicle or a description of the classes of vehicles convered. Some insurance companies use the latter for the purposes of administrative efficiency and to facilitate owners whose cover is not interrupted on change of vehicles.

Is the situation now that insurance certificates do not actually give the number and registration mark of the car on the certificate?

As regards some insurance companies the necessary qualification is that the car be registered in the name of the owner.

Is the Minister satisfied that that is a satisfactory situation?

Yes, but it is at present being looked at.

It sounds unsatisfactory as far as Redmond Bridge is concerned.

I can assure the Deputy that Redmond Bridge is well looked after.
