Vol. 328 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grants to County Dublin Firm.

337.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism the total amount of State grants given to a firm (details supplied) in County Dublin; and whether any recent examination of the viability of this firm was undertaken by the Industrial Development Authority.

I am informed that grant assistance to the company referred to was approved by the Industrial Development Authority in connection with the take-over from the previous owners. Details of grants approved or payments made are not normally disclosed until they are published in the IDA annual report.

Due to a downturn in the market for ship repair and increased competition for the reducing level of business, the company have experienced considerable difficulties in 1980 and 1981 to date and a number of the workers have been made redundant. The IDA are in close touch with the company at all times.
