Vol. 328 No. 2

Written Answers. - Conservation of Monuments.

340.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is yet in a position to carry out conservation works at Ballyboggan Abbey and Castlejordan Castle which have been recognised by the Office of Public Works as in need of conservation.

Ballyboggan Abbey and Castlejordan Castle are not in State care and accordingly their conservation at State expense is precluded. While the Commissioners of Public Works recognise that both monuments are worthy of preservation they see no point in considering taking them into State care at this juncture as the existing workload is such that the extensive works required at Ballyboggan Abbey and Castlejordan Castle could not be reached for many years.
