asked the Minister for Transport the current projected cost of the electrification scheme for the Dublin suburban railway; and by how much the cost has escalated since approval was granted in 1979.
Written Answers. - Dublin Suburban Railway.
298.
In May 1979 the Government approved of the electrification of the Dublin suburban rail services from Howth to Bray at an estimated capital cost of £46 million at early 1979 prices. The most recent total cost figure for which a breakdown is available is the 1980 figure of £60.2 million. This increase in costs compares favourably with the increase in the construction cost index published by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, for the same period.
