Vol. 328 No. 9

Written Answers. - Health Education Bureau Accounts.

358.

andMr. T.J. Fitzpatrick (Cavan-Monaghan) asked the Minister for Health the reason the Health Education Bureau has failed to issue a report of its accounts since its establishment in 1975; if, in view of the fact that no accountability for the bureau's expenditure has been forthcoming, he will give a statement of the moneys received by the bureau, together with a list of its expenditure since 1975; if the bureau intends to publish an annual report at some date in the future; and, if so, if this report will include a statement of its accounts since its establishment.

The Health Education Bureau have fully complied with their accountability requirements. Audited accounts for each of the years 1975 to 1979 in accordance with the statutory requirements of S. I. No. 22 of 1975 have been submitted to members of the bureau and to the Minister. The audit of the 1980 accounts will be completed shortly.

The statements of accounts presented to the Minister in respect of each year have incorporated full details of the bureau's activities and fulfilled the requirements of Article 21 (1) of S.I. No. 22 of 1975.

The bureau will shortly publish an account of the activities of their first term of office covering the period February 1975 to January 1979. The question of publishing an annual report is a matter for the bureau. Such a report would normally include a statement on finances during the year under review.
