Vol. 328 No. 10

Private Notice Questions. - Intimidation of Public and Private Business.

asked the Minister for Justice if in view of reports of intimidation intended to frustrate the normal operations of the public services and private business tomorrow, he will make a statement to reassure public opinion on this matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that they have no knowledge of intimidation of the kind referred to by the Deputy.

In the nature of things this does not exclude the possibility of some individual members of the force having received complaints which they would not yet have had time to report to higher authority.

I can, however, give an assurance that any complaints of intimidation that may be made to the Garda Síochána will be fully and promptly dealt with and that I have no reason to believe that public and private services will not operate normally.

Can the Minister give us an assurance that there is no question of any public service not being operated normally? There have been reports of staffs of public offices being intimidated into not reporting in their offices tomorrow. If I give the Minister information of a particular case will he investigate it?

I will be glad to.
