asked the Minister for the Environment when approval will be issued by his Department for improvement works to the Rathmullen Road, Drogheda, County Louth, in view of the fact that the design and plans have been submitted by Drogheda Corporation and that the improvement works are needed urgently.

Plans for improvement works on this road have not been received in my Department. The planning and execution of road works at this location are matters wholly within the discretion of Drogheda Corporation and would not require my sanction. In accordance with normal practice any such works would be financed from the Corporation's own resources supplemented by the annual general grant for roads.
