With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 539 to 544, inclusive, together.

The number of students who held grants under the Higher Education Grants Scheme in the academic year 1980-81 was 5,021 and the total value of the grants was £4,027,174. Statistical information in regard to (a) the number of students who were resident in or adjacent to a university town or whose residence was not in or adjacent to a university town and (b) the number of grants at the various levels in each case, is not available in my Department.

It is estimated that the total number of grant-holders in the academic year 1981-82 will be about 5,870 and that the total value of these grants will be about £7,254,000. Detailed statistical information as requested by the Deputy is not available in my Department.
