No decision has been taken to transfer staff or territory from the Galway Engineering District to Portlaoise Engineering District.
For economic and technical reasons it has been decided to route telephone traffic from Portumna through Birr Switching Centre. The staff in the Portumna area will not, however, be transferred to Portlaoise District and their existing staff seniority or promotion prospects within the Galway District will not be affected.
