Vol. 330 No. 5

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

512.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants for telephone service in County Louth in each of the postal districts at 30 September 1981; and the number of telephones installed there in each of the past three years.

Records are not maintained in a form that would enable this information to be obtained readily and its compilation would involve a disproportionate amount of staff time. A check shows, however, that there were about 1,900 waiting applications at exchanges in County Louth on 30 September 1981.

513.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of public telephone kiosks that will be erected during 1981 under (a) his Department's own programme and (b) the local authorities' guarantee scheme in (i) Drogheda, (ii) Dundalk, (iii) Ardee and (iv) the rest of County Louth.

The answer to (a), (b) (i), (b) (ii) and (b) (iii) is none and to (b) (iv) is one (at Kilsaran). In addition, a kiosk erected in 1980 at Collon under the guarantee scheme was brought into service in 1981.

514.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the proposed schedule for the automation of the telephone exchanges controlled by Carrick-on-Shannon Exchange, County Sligo.

It is hoped to provide automatic service at Carrick-on-Shannon itself in about a year's time. The other exchanges in the Carrick-on-Shannon group, together with those in the Drumshanbo Charge Group, will get automatic service on a progressive basis over a period of about 12 months following the conversion of Carrick-on-Shannon to automatic working.

515.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when Manorhamilton Exchange, County Leitrim, will become automatic.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be supplied to all applicants living in the following estates in Dublin South: (a) Grange Wood, Rathfarnham, (b) Marley Court, Rathfarnham and (c) Darglewood, Rathfarnham.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the total number of telephone installations in North Kerry for the year ended December 1980; and the total number of installations in County Kerry in the current year to date.

Records are not maintained in a form that would enable this information to be obtained readily and its compilation would involve a disproportionate amount of staff time.

518.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants who have paid for telephone connection and service in North Kerry up to June 1981 and who have not received service to date; and the estimated time it will take to provide service.

Service will be provided progressively over the next two months or so.

519.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants for telephone service in the Tralee urban area, County Kerry; and the estimated time it will take to supply telephones to them.

About 350. The bulk of these applications will be met during the next 12 months or so. The balance will be cleared progressively over the following year.

520.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of applicants for telephone service in North Kerry excluding Tralee urban area; and the estimated time it will take to supply a telephone to these applicants.

521.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when automatic telephone services will be extended in North Kerry to include subscribers in Finuge, Duagh, Moyvane, Asdee, Ballylongford, Lisselton, Lyreacrompane, Brosna and Knocknagashel.

It is expected that automatic telephone service will be provided at Ballylongford and Knocknagashel about the end of 1982. Provided that the necessary exchange buildings are completed as expected, Duagh, Asdee, Lyreacrompane and Brosna should be converted about the middle of 1983 and Finuge, Moyvane and Lisselton about the end of 1983.

522.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when further telephone service at Seaview Park, Newtownmountkennedy, County Wicklow, will be provided and the situation in regard to the proposed telephone exchange at this centre.

It is taken that the question relates to Seasons Park, Newtownmountkennedy. Telephone service has been provided for all but a few applicants in the estate. The remaining applications will be dealt with during 1982.

A site has been acquired for a new telephone exchange at Newtownmountkennedy to meet long-term requirements. The new exchange is expected to be in service about the end of 1983.
