Vol. 330 No. 5

Written Answers. - Leitrim Border Crossing.

603.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will commence discussions with his British counterpart regarding the provision of a Border crossing at Kiltyclogher, County Leitrim.

Minister for Foreign Affairs (Professor Dooge)

My Department have been in regular contact with the British authorities about the Border crossing at Kiltyclogher. In view of the assessment made by the British authorities of security requirements on the relevant part of the Border, it is difficult to be optimistic about prospects for re-opening Cashel bridge. As regards the adjacent foot bridge, the acting Minister for Foreign Affairs requested Leitrim County Council to submit proposals, which might be raised with the British authorities, for improving or relocating the footbridge and it is to be hoped that something can be done in this way to alleviate the situation.
