Vol. 330 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Kilkenny Vocational Schools.

558.

asked the Minister for Education when work will commence on the proposed new vocational school at Thomastown, County Kilkenny; and the reason for the delay

The tenders received for the new vocational school at Thomastown, County Kilkenny, have exceeded significantly the standard cost limits laid down by my Department. The vocational education committee and their consultants have been requested to submit their proposals for ensuring that the cost limits are not exceeded. Pending the receipt and consideration of the committee's proposals, I am not in a position to say when a contract for the building of the new school may be placed or when building work may commence.

559.

asked the Minister for Education the progress that has been made on the provision of new classrooms at the vocational education committee school, Ballyhale, County Kilkenny.

The development of Ballyhale vocational school to cater for 200 pupils overall in permanent accommodation has been approved. As a first step in the planning of the project arrangements are being made to have the existing school site and premises inspected at an early date prior to the commencement of planning the new accommodation.
