Vol. 330 No. 7

Written Answers. - Offaly School.

315.

asked the Minister for Education why he intends closing Cadamstown national school, Birr, County Offaly on 30 June 1982.

The agreement reached locally in 1974 was that this one teacher prefabricated school would amalgamate with the school in Kinnitty when suitably extended. Plans for the provision of the extension were put in hands accordingly and the stage has now been reached when tenders for the work are being examined by the Office of Public Works.

I understand that the prefabricated classroom at Cadamstown is now in very poor condition and that its repair would not be feasible. I have arranged for an officer of my Department to meet the parents of the Cadamstown school district, at their request, for a discussion of the matter. When I receive the report of the meeting I will consider the matter further.
