Vol. 330 No. 7

Written Answers. - Clare Advance Factories.

486.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy when work will commence on the construction of the new advance factories at the following or at any other locations in County Clare: Kilkee, Kildysart, Kilmihil, Miltown Malbay, Ennistymon, Ennis and Killaloe; the size of the building in each location; and the efforts that are being made to provide projects for the areas involved.

I am informed by the Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited and the Industrial Development Authority that the following is the position in relation to new advance factory construction in the areas referred to by the Deputy:

Location

Factory Size

Commencement Date

Kilkee

5,000 sq.ft.

November, 1981

Kildysart

2 × 1,250 sq.ft.

December, 1981

Kilmihil

1,500 sq. ft.

December, 1981

Miltown Malbay

2,054 sq. ft.

Recently completed

Ennis

4 × 2,750 sq. ft.

November, 1981

Killaloe

1,000 sq. ft.

December, 1981

No new advance factory is planned for Ennistymon at present. In recent months, the refurbishing of a 4,500 sq. ft. building in Labasheeda as an advance factory; and the construction of a new 7,250 sq. ft. unit at Smithstown have been completed. It is planned to commence the refurbishing of an existing 4,000 sq. ft. building in Ballyvaughan in the new year.

SFADCo are at present in negotiations with industrial promoters on projects for the Killaloe, Miltown Malbay and Smithstown factories. Both the Industrial Development Authority and the Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited are making every effort to secure new manufacturing projects for the other advance factories.
