Vol. 330 No. 7

Written Answers. - Transfer of Loyalist Prisoners.

383.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has made any decision about transferring the Loyalist prisoners in Mountjoy Prison from the basement block in which they are held to improved quarters.

Since taking office I have considered the representations made on behalf of the prisoners in question and I have arranged for certain changes to be made to ease the conditions under which they are imprisoned. As regards their location in prison, the position is still as set out in my reply on 9 July 1981 to a parliamentary question by the Deputy (Official Report Vol. 329, cols. 443 and 444) but because of progress in the prison building and refurbishment programme it may be possible to consider another location for them in the next few months.
