Vol. 330 No. 13

Written Answers. - Shannon Town Centre Expansion.

555.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the plans that have been prepared for the further extension by SFADCo of Shannon town centre; the total cost involved; and when works will be completed.

I am informed by the Shannon Free Airport Development Company Ltd. that a private company undertook the following development during 1981, with the approval of SFADCo., at Shannon town:

—the provision of 8,000 sq. ft. of shopping space and infrastructural works for the shopping centre at a cost of approximately £.5 million.

—the sale of three sites to public agencies for the construction of a motor registration unit, ESB showrooms and a Clare County Council library.

These developments, when completed next year, will entail a total expenditure of almost £1.5 million.

Plans are being formulated for the provision during 1982 of further public amenities in the town including a telephone exchange, a Garda station and a health clinic. SFADCo are at present preparing an overall plan for the further development of the entire town centre which they hope to have completed during 1982.
