Vol. 331 No. 12

Written Answers. - Foyle Fisheries.

137.

asked the Minister for Justice the circumstances under which Garda operate with water bailiffs in respect of fishery protection in parts of the Foyle Fisheries.

On request the Garda Síochána assist the Foyle Fisheries Commission staff in enforcing the Foyle Fisheries Acts, 1952 to 1976, on occasions when violence or obstruction is anticipated. Apart from assisting the Commission's staff, the Garda also act on their own initiative in enforcing the Acts, as a member of the Garda Síochána is included in the definition in the Acts of "authorised person" for the protection of the fisheries of the Foyle area.
