Vol. 333 No. 5

Written Answers. - Planning Permissions.

300.

asked the Minister for the Environment if it is his intention to introduce legislation extending the life of planning permissions which under existing legislation are deemed to have expired on 31 October 1981.

302.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position in relation to planning permissions which were deemed to have expired on 31 October 1981; and if he will make a statement regarding his predecessor's intention of granting a further year's extension in respect of all such planning permissions.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 300 and 302 together.

I intend to introduce legislation early in the next Dáil term to extend the duration of planning permissions, including those which cease to have effect on 31 October 1981. Until that legislation is enacted, section 29 of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1976, continues in force, and planning authorities are empowered by it to extend, or to further extend, the period of duration of a permission.
