Vol. 333 No. 8

Written Answers. - Youth Employment Scheme Grant.

46.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that a letter was issued by his Minister of State on 2 March 1982 which indicated to a football club (details supplied) in County Waterford that a grant had been approved under his Department's youth employment scheme; and if he is further aware that on 16 March 1982, a further letter was issued by his Department stating that in view of the limitation on the funds available it was regretted that it was not possible to accede to the application; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The football club concerned applied for a capital grant under the community, youth recreational and employment programme. My predecessor as Minister of State, in his letter of 2 March, stated that he was prepared to approve a grant under a different scheme, the temporary youth employment scheme.

The letter of 16 March from the Department indicated that it had not been possible to accede to the application for aid under the capital scheme and suggested that if they wished to have their project considered under the employment scheme they should complete the relevant application form.
