Vol. 334 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Housing Development

894.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give the immediate go-ahead for the proposals put to him by Dublin Corporation in connection with the redevelopment by Dublin Corporation of the designated area in Seán McDermott Street general area.

Proposals submitted by Dublin Corporation for the development for housing purposes of two sections of the designated area (sections C and D), comprising approximately 88 dwellings, have been approved. I understand that Dublin Corporation propose to invite tenders in the near future for the erection of a number of the dwellings in these sections and to commence work on them in the present year.

In regard to the designated area as a whole, my concern is to ensure the provisions, as soon as possible, of an overall balance in development in the various sections of the area by ensuring a suitable mix of housing, industry, open space, social, educational and community facilities and other amenities. I understand that in the light of these considerations, which have been impressed on corporation officials in the course of recent discussions, the corporation are radically reviewing their proposals for the balance of the designated area (sections A and B). When revised proposals for sections A and B are submitted to my Department by the corporation they will be examined as expeditiously as possible.
