Vol. 334 No. 8

Written Answers. - Flour Imports.

705.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the substantial increase in imports of flour and the resultant threat which is posed to employment in the home industry; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

While flour imports into this country have increased in recent years, these imports still represent only a very small proportion of our overall flour consumption. Under EEC regulations it is not open to me to put any restrictions on such imports. Naturally, I would like to see all our requirements of flour produced at home, with native wheat being used to the greatest degree possible.
