Vol. 334 No. 8

Written Answers. - FCA Uniform.

764.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will give the approximate cost and details of the new pattern uniform issued to FCA personnel; if, in view of its design and unsuitability for field exercises, he intends to issue combat gear to FCA units; and, if so, the approximate cost.

The cost of the new pattern tunic and trousers on issue to non-commisioned officers and privates of the FCA is £35.54. Officers of the FCA receive initial and annual replenishment allowances in order to provide themselves with tailored tunics and trousers. The uniform is similar to that issued to members of the Permanent Defence Force except that the FCA tunic has maroon epaulettes and FCA flashes. The provision of suitable uniform for FCA personnel for training purposes is under examination. However, having regard to the incidence of duties for which such clothing is appropriate the substantial financial outlay involved in the provision of combat uniforms for the purpose is not regarded as warranted.
