Vol. 335 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Galway Harbour.

1014.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the proposals he now has for the development of Rossaveal Harbour, County Galway, following the hydrographic study carried out by the Office of Public Works.

My Department, in consultation with the Office of Public Works, is in the process of preparing overall plans for the full development of Rossaveal Harbour as a fishery harbour centre. Such development will provide for onshore as well as offshore facilities to cater for the landing, marketing and processing of the catch as well as the servicing of the fleet. Cognisance must, therefore, be taken of the natural onshore situation as well as the offshore conditions which the hydrographic survey revealed.

Pending the finalisation of these plans and the approval of the Minister for Finance for the incurring of the considerable expenditure which will be involved, I will not be in a position to state what the detailed proposals for the development of this harbour will be.
