"No. detected" refers to offences in respect of which charges are preferred and in addition offences in respect of which the perpetrators are known but where charges are not preferred because, for example, those concerned are dealt with under the juvenile liaison scheme or are mentally incapacitated or have died.
3. "No. of convictions" does not include cases where the indictable offence was dealt with summarily and where the charge was proved and an order made without conviction. Statistics of such cases for the areas in question are not available but the numbers of such cases is quite small.
