Vol. 336 No. 5

Written Answers. - Non-Accidental Injury to Children.

752.

asked the Minister for Health the progress being made in reviewing procedures for the management and control of the problem of non-accidental injury to children; and if, in view of the urgent need for action on this matter, he will implement any reforms recommended as a result of this review.

The review of the guidelines on non-accidental injury to children is now well under way. A number of community care teams have already submitted their views and those still outstanding are being pressed to do so as a matter of urgency.

I can assure the Deputy that any changes in procedures considered necessary or desirable will be incorporated in the revised set of guidelines resulting from this review. Furthermore reforms relating to legal procedures will be included in the Children Bill at present being prepared.
