Vol. 336 No. 7

Written Answers. - Assistance for Disabled.

506.

asked the Minister for Health the present position in regard to each of the matters referred to by him in the reply to a parliamentary question on 10 March 1981 as being undertaken at that time to mark the International Year of the Disabled to assist persons with each of the following handicaps (a) impairment of limbs, (b) deafness, (c) speech impairment, (d) blindness and (e) mental handicap; if he will state in each instance where a matter was then being referred to a committee if the committee has reported thereon; and the action taken on its report.

My Department are continuing to develop programmes to assist all disabled people. By reason of the broad nature of these programmes it is not possible to provide information in the form requested by the Deputy. I am, however, arranging to send to the Deputy a copy of two reports published by the National Committee for the International Year of Disabled Persons. The recommendations contained in these reports have been taken into account in the preparation of the Green Paper on Services for the Disabled which will be published shortly.
