Vol. 337 No. 1

Written Answers. - Television Signal.

507.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that persons (details supplied) in Dublin 8 have been denied a proper television signal by a company (details supplied); whether the company has a franchise from his Department in respect of the signal and, if so, the responsibilities on the company to provide a proper signal; if he is aware that the persons concerned have had great difficulty in getting any satisfaction from the company concerned; and if he will outline the complaints procedure which exists in his Department for people experiencing such difficulties.

The cable television licence for the area in question was issued to Marlin Communal Aerials Ltd., now trading as Dublin Cablesytems Ltd. The licensee is required to comply with technical conditions which are designed to ensure that the signals received at the mast head are not downgraded while being relayed to subscribers. My Department have not had any complaints from the persons referred to regarding the relay company's service. Complaints made to the Department regarding reception are referred to the company concerned with a request for a report and subscribers are informed of the outcome.
