asked the Minister for Education the current number of new school buildings (primary branch) for which grants have been sanctioned; and the approximate cost.

According to the records of my Department grants have been sanctioned during the school year 1981-82 towards the cost of 30 new primary schools which are estimated to cost £9,079,523.

asked the Minister for Education the number of enlargements in national schools for which grants were sanctioned; and the cost thereof for the school year 1981-82.

According to my Department's records grants have been sanctioned during the school year 1981-82 towards the cost of 75 extensions to primary schools which are estimated to cost a total of £6,500,272.

asked the Minister for Education the current number of grants for improvements, furniture and equipment in national schools; and the cost.

According to my Department's records 972 grants were sanctioned during the period 1 July 1981 to 24 June 1982 for improvements, furniture and equipment in national schools. The grants were based on a total estimated cost of £2,583,227.

asked the Minister for Education (a) the number of national school buildings completed in the school year 1981-82; and (b) the number of enlargements completed in that year.

My Department's records show that 21 new primary schools and 20 extensions were completed in the period 1 July 1981 to date.

asked the Minister for Education the number of school buildings and enlargement schemes for which contracts were placed during the school year 1981-82.

My Department's records show that contracts were placed for 47 new primary schools and for 65 extensions from the commencement of the school-year to date. In the case of post-primary schools contracts in the same period were placed for nine new schools and 31 extensions.
