Vol. 337 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Donegal Piers.

563.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the up-to-date position of the proposed repair and development of Moville Pier, County Donegal.

Moville Pier is vested in the Harbour Commissioners for the port of Derry. The cost of the present structure was met by my Department with a small contribution from the Harbour Commissioners who agreed to accept responsibility for repair and maintenance. The Department are in correspondence with the Harbour Commissioners with a view to having repairs to the pier carried out as quickly as possible. I have no proposals for the further development of Moville Pier.

564.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the up-to-date position of the proposed development of Portmore Pier, Malin Head, County Donegal.

During the past year my Department made a grant towards the cost of an electrically operated crane and two recessed ladders provided at a total cost of £40,000.

A major development scheme for this harbour sought by local fishermen has been given full consideration by my Department but it was decided that the low level of fishing from Portmore would not warrant the high level of expenditure involved. However, I will re-examine the matter in view of the representations I have received from the fishermen and I will communicate with the Deputy in due course.
