Vol. 337 No. 10

Written Answers. - Revenue for Car and Oil Sales.

411.

asked the Minister for Finance the approximate amount, on a county basis, of revenue raised on the following items: (i) the sale of motor vehicles; (ii) tax on petrol; and (iii) tax on diesel.

I assume the Deputy has in mind the excise duty and VAT receipts which can be attributed to sales of motor vehicles, petrol and auto-diesel in each county. Excise duty on the commodities mentioned is collected at the point of importation, or on delivery from warehouse or factory, and VAT returns from traders are not segregated on a county basis. Statistics are, accordingly, not available in a form which would enable the information requested to be given.

However, it is estimated that the total amount of excise duty and VAT collected in 1981 in respect of the commodities mentioned was as follows:—
