Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - Maynooth College Grant.

244.

asked the Minister for Education if he will reconsider the level of the current grant to St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, County Kildare, in order to allow the Trustees of the College to moderate the extra fee increase over and above the increase being applied by the other university institutions; and if he will institute a multi-annual development programme to bring courses and facilities at St. Patrick's College to a level equivalent to those obtaining in the other university institutions.

The total provision in Vote 33 — Higher Education — for 1982 was made by the previous Government in connection with preparation of the Estimates of Public Expenditure for the educational service in that year. It was a matter for the higher education authority to allocate the resources made available to it among the individual designated institutions. I am satisfied that it did so on a fair and equitable basis with due regard to all relevant considerations.
