Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - South Tipperary Public Health Concern.

311.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware of concern about public health which has been expressed in the Ballydine-Kilsheelin area of South Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that concern has been expressed in the Ballydine-Kilsheelin area of South Tipperary concerning a number of local people who appear to have health problems of a respiratory nature.

I understand from my colleague, the Minister for the Environment, that An Foras Forbartha who were engaged by the Tipperary (SR) County Council have completed a monitoring programme and other investigations in regard to the level of pollutants in the area. While the final report on this programme is not yet available I am informed that the indications from interim reports are that the levels of pollutants in the area do not pose a health problem. I will be keeping in touch with the position.
